Kaiser Stopped Play

The following extracts from the Annul General Meeting, at the beginning of the war speak for themselves:-

"Resolved that no fixtures be arranged for the ensuing year due to the war".
"Resolved that a General Meeting be called as soon as possible after the cessation of hostilities and in the meantime the activities of the Club be suspended".

Thus for nearly five years Farmer Bayliss's cattle quietly and peacefully grazed and enriched the cricket ground without hindrance.

The young men of the village, however, were destined for muddier, noisier, hellish fields. They in the prime of their youth went to war! Eleven never came back.
