The following extracts from
the Annul General Meeting, at the beginning of the war speak for
"Resolved that no fixtures
be arranged for the ensuing year due to the war".
"Resolved that a General Meeting be called as soon as possible
after the cessation of hostilities and in the meantime the activities
of the Club be suspended".
Thus for nearly five years
Farmer Bayliss's cattle quietly and peacefully grazed and enriched
the cricket ground without hindrance.
The young men of the village, however, were destined for muddier,
noisier, hellish fields. They in the prime of their youth went
to war! Eleven never came back.
